Good Night...

  1. Thank you so much for posting this! (I have followed the blog for months but have never posted.) This is the song I whisperly sang in my premature son's ear as he laid there on the ventalator in the NICU struggling for his very existence. He is 16 years old now. I still want to sing this in his hear as he tries to sleeps some restless nights. He, along with his twin sister, who I had a different Irish lullaby to help calm her, have grown up in this Parish and now can not bear to attend Mass here. We attend Mass at St. Catherine's in Addison. This was a weekly battle. As a family we had to come to the conclusion we had to step away from ASP to save our children from total disillution in the Catholic Church. My daughter says about ASP...this was my parish, I do not even recognize it anymore. We have the pictures of Baptism at IMH, First Communion at St. Vincent's, Crowning of Mary and Confirmation at St. Mary's all around the house. My kids grew up in the ASP Family! For us, it is not all about buildings, but about a community! I think we all need to remember this, we, as a family have been torn apart! Someone in the family has been sent here to cause discord and tear the family apart.
We were in a Asian country for 4 years and our teens are now saying they got more spititually out the church and masses we attended there, where we had a predominately Chinese population of parishioners and a Dutch Priest(whose Mandarin was much better than English). I think we all... parish leadership, councils, those who are for, or against have to remember this...it is much bigger than us as adults!!! We are setting the future of our Catholic Children! I for one, am teaching my children to be reverent to the Eucharist, Sacraments, Adoration and Tradition and to most importantly teach them to Respect each other, embrace differences and practice Humility. And I must say I have had to look outside our current church to do this. May we all come together in Christ and respect each other! Both sides! Nobody's totally right or wrong here! Mistakes have been made on all sides. Let's stop the negative blogging to intice responses, let the positive thoughts come forward, and try to fix all this for our future Catholic children...who will be our Leaders in Faith in our Catholic church. What Legacy do we want to leave them??

  2. Nicely written. I agree it is time to stop all this negative blogging, it is getting us no where. Its time to respect everyone and work hard to make this the best parish it can possibly be. If we spent the same time working to improve the parish as we have blogging just think how wonderful the parish could be. So let’s stop the negatives and focus on OUR parish!

  3. I wanted to cry when I read this post. My children feel the same way. We have lost much but I fight to keep the faith for my children. I will drive them across the county to find a Church where they experience passion for the faith and witness true reverance for the Eucharist. I keep telling them that they are part of a universal and sometimes an imperfect Church that was founded by our perfect Lord. That's good enough for them. They "get" what going on here.

  5. So again let's stop making the comments that need to be censored! Working together is the only why to work our way thru this.

  6. Gretchen, no fooling you can decide what is seen and what is not seen.....that to me does not seem right. I thought this was an open discussion site. Talk about censorship at its finest.

  7. Gretchen, I think that is a wonderful idea dear. That way, no negativity is out there slandering others without the benefit of results. Thank you.

  9. 3:04am- I feel for you. My family no longer attends mass in Corning. By the time we left, it felt like the only thing to do. Most of my children's friends are now at mass in Addison, so they are comfortable in a new surrounding. We love both priests but we love Father Lew as well.My children are in high school and the most important factor for me was to give them a positive experience of the Catholic church before they go off to college. We also support the FBI group and even though it's not the same as it used to be, the kids are getting together and doing good things for the community. I just received an e-mail that Alene was joining the group, my kids will be thrilled. It's not a perfect solution to a difficult situation but we're all trying to do what we can to keep our kids connected to their faith. Moving on takes many forms. We need to pray for all of our youth.

  10. To 3:04 AM- I had to laugh. You are still up all night even though the twins are no longer babies! Great middle-of-the-night post.

  11. 9:39am- I have no problem with Gretchen's attempts to keep this blog clean. Seems to many that the censorship comes from the leadership in question. We only know what we are permitted to know and there has been little of the open discussion that you make reference to. Yes, censorship at it's finest.

  12. I was referring to your turning on the comment moderation. I just meant that if you were able to check them before they were seen then that way nothing really mean would be posted. So, thank you :)

  14. 1:05 Gretchen started this site and moderates it. Sometimes things got out of hand but mostly not. If you have a problem with this, don't visit the site, start your own and post your link. Wouldn't that be special!

  15. 9:39am- Is there anything that has been posted on this site that is a blatant lie? Or even a half truth? Particularily, something that hasn't been corrected by the moderator? If you have specifics, please share. I have read most all posts and find most to be accurate, even in regards to the negative Dean Condon stuff. Feel free to enlighten me if I am in error.

  16. I have a question for the people that are attending church elsewhere. I just wonder what part of our mass is it that you feel is not teaching true reverence to the Eucharist. Just wondering why you feel attending mass somewhere else will make your children grow in their faith any more than attending mass at ASP. When they do go away to school, they will experience yet another community of people some of which they agree with and some not. They will still be able to celebrate mass and experience the Eucharist. I have tried to teach my children that they are serving on the altar, attending youth group, participating in religious ed. ect. for God, they are serving God, they are not there because they like or even agree with every priest or deacon. Attending mass and participating in parish events as a family ,I am hoping will teach my children to respect the Eucharist and grow in their faith no matter where we attend mass whether it be in Corning or a different area or for that matter a diffferent part of the world.

  17. Wow great one, can't wait to see the answers to this one. I am assuming they will be good and right to the point!

  18. 2:02pm- Perhaps you need to experience a solemn, reverant mass where there is not mass confusion on the altar, the music is the not the focus of the celebration, the priest is revered, there is very little chit-chat in the pews before mass, we can always count on a priest giving the homily, someone notices if you are absent one week, people support fundraising and parish events, the religious ed program is outstanding and traditional, volunteers make things happen, the length of the mass is condusive to families and children, nothing fancy just a good, old fashioned mass. Head to Campbell or Addison to see for yourself.
