Building for the future

Have you heard that when St. Vincent Catholic Church was built, it was constructed in such a way as to allow for future expansion? Apparently it can be bumped out 20-30 feet, allowing for many more pews.

Makes you wonder if, during the three years of secret planning, our Facilities Council had that information. There are blueprints around...

  1. I just saw in todays paper that Bishop Clark spoke about the church's possible closing at the children's mass. I would not have expected that. It seems that if the Bishop was going to speak of the demolition of a church he could have done it at a venue where more adults could have been present (many of us work). It takes a strong leader to be able to stand up to the opposition and answer the tough questions! I loved Gretchen's letter to the editor today. Thanks for all you do. So sorry you have been attacked on this site for doing what you think is right to save your church.

  2. Funny, for the children's sake some of us decided not to do a silent protest regarding this issue during the mass only to find out that he did.
But I have faith. Two days ago, my five year old took my yard sign and asked me what it was. I told her it read "Preserve our Church". She then asked me what preserve meant, I told her we wanted to keep the church. The inevitable why? followed. I told her they were trying to sell the Church. Instead of asking me why?, she asked me where will we go, I said another church and dropped it. A minute later, I hear her chanting something.. I come out of my computer room to find my front door wide open and my daughter holding the sign while chanting "Don't sell our Church"
She strengthen my Faith. Even a five year old gets it.
    Yours in Christ,
    Emily

  3. I'm not sure if he spoke during the mass... an interview was televised last night, during which he spoke of "tough decisions", maybe this is when he shared about Saint Vincent's and not during the mass, which would have been an inappropriate time. Was anybody there?

  4. Yes, I was there and he did not speak of the sale during the Mass. He was very attentive to the children and I could not help but think how they will remember the visit. I was surprised to see that schooll kids from Ithaca and Owego and outlying places were there. Well, it did look like an almost 2/4 full church!!As I was leaving he was in a corner with about three newspeople giving the interview. So No it was not during his time with the children.

  5. Oops. I meant to say 3/4 full not 2/4 or 1/2.

  6. Did the Bishop preach at the mass? Just curious, I noticed Deacon Dean's picture in the Leader.

  7. Yes, the bishop did preach. I am not sure he prepared much. He spent a lot of time thanking everybody under the sun and then spoke directly to the kids about Christ the light and how they too are light and asked them to whom they could be a light to today. He gave them a couple ideas. Then he he did a lot of thanking again. The two deacons were on the altar with him doing their deacon things.

  8. It was not during the Mass, but he still "discussed" it. This would have been a great opportunity for him to sit down with parishioners. Too bad.

  9. Do you understand why he was in Corning? Not to deal with the Church issue but to celebrate ASA and the kids.

But a moment to start a healing process was also lost.
