A message from Teen Angel

The Teen Angel Program needs help! We have 58 teens who do not have sponsors for this Christmas. If you would like to sponsor a teen, you will receive their first name, their age and the school they are attending, along with 5 items that they need and 1 or 2 items that they would like. All teens are from the Corning-Painted Post school district and have been referred by district representatives. The gifts provided through our program are the only gifts these teens will receive. If you are able to help, please contact the site administrator at admin@savingourparish.com and someone from the Teen Angel program will be in touch.

  1. I have sponsored one teen. Keep us updated please. We don't want one teen to go without this Christmas. I will gladly sponsor another, if needed.

  2. I have just received my "teen" in the mail. This is my first time to sponsor and I am humbled at what my teen has asked for: socks, underwear, gloves and warm pajamas. Makes me want to cry when I think about how much most of our kids get and don't need, yet expect. Let's all pray that all of these teens find a sponsor.

  3. You'll receive graces you never even knew existed. Shopping for your teen will be so rewarding and will put Christmas in a whole new perspective for you. I'm so glad you stepped up, and the teen you are shopping for will be very thankful.

  4. My teen asked for sheets and a warm blanket. I cried.

  5. So many angels, this truly is a blessing to the parish. Something good is happening and we need to build on this spirit of sharing and giving and believing. And maybe forgiving?

  6. Yeah there is something in the air today for sure, I was moved to re-enroll my kids for family religious ed. at ASP(St. Vincent's). Mary Ann H. was very kind and welcoming!

  7. My "teen list" arrived in the mail this morning. She is 16 and asking for a comforter, bed sheets and a pillow for her twin sized bed. I pulled out of my purse a list that my daughter had given me a few weeks ago. I am ashamed that I have taught my children that Christmas is all about getting as much as you can. It's my fault. I plan on having a talk with her when she gets home from school today and asking her what she is willing to give up from her list to help this 16 year old who has nothing on her bed. Thank you Teen Angel for teaching me about Christmas.

  8. Alene was very kind and welcoming. My family misses her so much, especially as we are in the advent season. She taught the kids the real meaning of Christmas in her unique and intimate way. Still seems all wrong to let her go to save a few bucks. Seems like we lost more than we've saved. But I am happy that the teen angel is doing such good things and will be happy to help.

  9. FINALLY. Some positive messaging on this blog. But can't help to think that it is linked to a very popular ex-influence in the parish. Keep up the good work Teen Angels- we all know who you are even though you don't want us to. A Blessed Christmas to all.

  10. Our family is sponsoring a teen and the information arrived today. For items needed she wrote: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body lotion and bath towels. I had no idea that kids would ask for things like this for Christmas. It breaks my heart that some have so little and some have so much. Is there more we should be doing to help these kids? They must need help all year long, does the Teen Angel work just for Christmas or during the year?

  11. Regarding Christmas....thank you to whoever put the Crib up outside ST Vincent's....however our tradition has been in the past it didn't go up until after Dec. 8...Immaculate Conception...I am glad it is up though but also tradition until the last few years is the INFANT was not put in until Christmas Eve...I have called passed years with this simple request yet it still happens...can't we hang on to this for what may be our last year here...why do we have to rush such a beautiful, simple tradition...if maintenance is to busy I'm sure many would do this simple thing...if not I WILL...just ask

  12. I agree. The creche should be absent the baby Christ. The one inside IHM is appropriately so.

  13. Hi Pam,
Yes, Teen Angel works throughout the year but through referrals within the local schools and some agencies.

  14. Pam- I am a teacher and ANYTIME a student needs ANYTHING, Marie McCiag and her angels deliver within hours of the request. I don't even know how it gets in the building but suddenly, there is a bag with everything I requested! I think the angels really and truly are angels! This program is the envy of other school districts, where they have no resources for their students and teachers themselves use their own money to buy for their neediest students. Such a great idea and the biggest kept secret in Corning! Off to class but just wanted to say Thank you Teen Angels- you are awesome!
