The Blessed Thistle(s)

The meeting last night was quite long. We are pondering its implications and will get back to you all in the next few days. Thank you for your prayers--they are much appreciated.

I can tell you there was talk of thistles last night. Cnicus benedictus, or Blessed Thistle, has many healing properties. William Shakespeare recommends "laying it to your heart" because it "helpeth that doth hurt and annoye the hart." Renowned in medieval times as a remedy for plague, it is used today for a variety of ailments. The thistle survives in the waste places of the world where little else grows. There is a place in God's kingdom for thistles.

  1. Can you share if you are encouraged after the meeting? Was there any healing on either side?

  4. I think I can read between the lines. Not good. Why can't we work together to resolve the concerns of the parish? This isn't about who said what or who did this or that- we need to put the crap behind us and fix the broken parish. If not now, when?

  5. Please don't assume not good. Three and a half hours of meeting cannot be digested that quickly. Please bear with us.

  6. When will we hear about the Sept.29 meeting? I understand that it was long but I'm having very pessimistic feelings about it since not a word has been said. I feel like we're paddling upstream and the paddling is getting more difficult.
How is the petition drive going? I'm out of town so I don't hear anything about it.

  7. We are working on a draft right now, and hope to have it up tomorrow. Thanks for your patience. We have hundreds of signatures on the petition--we still have gatherers out there.

  8. Just read about the meeting SOP had with Deacon Dean. The way I read it there is going to be one Church regardless of what SOP thinks. I really had to read twice about the hurt feelings of staff and council members from the blog. We all know they too have been writing hurtful things in it as well. Especially threatening that if we don't go to Church in Corning they will block us from being Baptized, Weddings and Funerals in Corning Church. Don't they think this is hurtful to us that want to save St Vincent's. And also if I am reading this right then any money raised would be used for St Mary's. If I am misunderstanding this please help me to understand what he means. My thoughts and prayers are with SOP as they continue this journey.

  9. They never said that you would be blocked from Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals, you can't even do that unless you have a specific reason, personal issues aside. Where did you get this idea??

  11. The anonymous commenter was not saying that staff would reject anybody they disagreed with--quite the opposite. They would need to provide the services for that family even though that the person wouldn't attend All Saints or contribute funds. They were trying to show the irony.
