Moving forward

I had to delete a few posts in the blog below. Most of what they contained was not out of line, but sometimes a zinger can undo the good in the rest of a post. One post I had to delete only because it referred to another deleted post and would've confused a new reader.

It seems to be time to begin moving past anger and accusations. Time to look at solutions. That's what the Sept. 12 meeting is about.

If we can make our posts more about fixing and not so much about finger-pointing, I think constructive solutions will start surfacing.

That doesn't mean we don't point out problems (though let's not point them out over and over again), it just means that we need to keep to the facts and not get unduly personal.

  1. Deleting others points of views ... isn't that censorship ? The Corning Painted Post Roman Catholic Community is in serious trouble. Maybe it's time to let the PRIESTS run the parish, like it's been done for generations upon generations. I believe that we had much less problems when the Priests were in charge.

  2. Well, we are trying to maintain a charitable standard, which is admittedly not easy in a situation like this.

    If you are looking for a completely un-moderated forum, feel free to open up a blog or website. Blogs are free and it's very easy to start one.

  3. Aren't most of the churches in our area run by PAs now? This is what I was told. I have met several administrators and parishioners who love their PAs... maybe we shouldn't generalize that all PAs are bad. Remember, Deacon Ray was once a PA...

  4. Ask Hammondsport and Bath then make the generalization.

  5. I am looking forward to the meeting. I am not convinced that it will bring about the changes that we are seeking but it will be somewhat of a healing to provide parishioners an opportunity to share their feelings and to offer their insight. I hope Deacon Dean joins us. It is critical that he personally witnesses the passion we parishioners have for Saint Vincent's.

  6. Don't agree with deleting certain blogs. Evidently telling the truth hit some sore spots in some people. Its easy to see which ones were deleted. Anything that brought out the truth on why Our Parish is in such financial trouble were deleted. Maybe certain people didn't like being mentioned that they are partly to blame but if guilty then face the people in the Parish. Quit sending others to do your dirty job.

  7. Perhaps we could all comment as if our own names were attached to the blog we were posting.

  8. Teresa,
    I think that is a very good suggestion. Now if we could just get more names on them. ;-}}

  9. Dear Bill, I know you would like people to attach their names to their comments but we don't always need to put a name/face to a feeling. I understand why someone signs their name "anonymous". For the last ten years I worked under a boss who was like a dictator. If you disagreed with her, there were definite repercussions. Our job atmosphere went from happy to fearful.
    Our parish is hurting. Our parishioners are hurting and some are leaving. If people need to blog anonymously, let them. Sometimes this is the only way we can start to heal. We need to support everyone, hear both sides, and pray. Mary

  10. St. Mary's Horseheads does not have a PA. The pastor is "in charge" and he has a very viable active council and committees who truly assist him and the members. He also has a school that the parish supports financially and emotionally so to speak. When a class does something notable he praises it from th pulpit; when a teen from the parish does something notable he/she is praised from the pulpit and bulletin. The school fosters vocations, a solid faith foundation and th pastor and faithful encourage its continuance. ASA has the potential to be an outstanding Catholic school offering all of Corning an alternative education.
