Facilities Plan Notes -- UPDATE

Hi all,

Information is coming out about the facilities plan. We've begun posting notes from parishioners who have attended. Go to the Articles page at SavingOurParish.com. Realize that what was provided to the parishioners was a piece of paper and a pen. The paper said, "What did you like about the plan? What would you improve?"

To post your notes, send them in an email to admin@savingourparish.com. The more information available, the better. Please take notes if you plan to attend a meeting. And do ask all the questions you've been asking here.

UPDATE: Notes #2 are up. Must read.

  1. I have a question. In Deacon Ray's article it says that it will members of the parish council and finance council and facilities committee who will present the information. Is that happening, or is it just the one guy who is being made to give the lecture to take the questions?

  2. The person who presented at the meeting I attended made a point of saying he was from none of those committees and could not answer any questions with any subgtance. However, someone said a member of one of the committees sat in the back and listened and said not a word. I felt sorry for the guy who is "narrating" the presentation. Very scripted so "all will be saying the same thing" he said. Feels like there are attempts to hoodwink us, as if we were living under a cabbage leaf.

  3. I have gone to a meeting and printed out the notes provided by the website for my husband to read before he attends his meeting. He really wants more financial figures...does anyone have them?

I suggest that if you plan to attend a future meeting that you read the notes provided here to help you write/ask some pointed questions (before you attend) See if the numbers add up in your presentation. Ask the questions..."Has there been an appraisel of the SVdP campus." "What happens if Providence Housing doesn't receive the state aid they require?" "Has the decline in parish membership due to the closing and demolishing of SVdP been factored into the financial figures." "What was the recommendations of the Facilities Committee before we received the PH offer?"

I could go on...but make sure any question you ask gets written down by the meeting recorder. They are "supposed" to be answered/addressed in the bulletin.

  4. An elderly parishioner was turned away from a meeting because her name was not on the list, due to a miscommunication with the scheduling. NOT ALLOWED INSIDE THE MEETING. SENT HOME. NO ROOM AT THE INN. This is how we are treating our beloved, long-time and faithful serving parishioners. Make sure you attend a facilities meeting.

  5. Anonymous 4:35 p.m. Yes, that incident did happen. It has, however, been corrected, and no further parishioners should be turned away.

  6. This is true. Also, does anybody know if anyone on the facilities committee is actually facilitating a group? Dale Wexell lead my group and was totally unprepared to answer several questions. Where were the people who unanimously accepted this plan? Where was Deacon Dean? These people should not be hiding in the shadows- they should be in the forefront selling their plan.

  7. Mary,
Great questions. I will ask them at my meeting, Sep 8. By then I will have heard a lot of feedback.

  8. I never got a chance to ask this question but what was the criteria for determining the worship space other than finances and maybe seating? What kind of out of the box thinking took place regarding Mass schedules, living space for pastor, office space? What kind of options were discussed regarding income to maintain the huge church and grounds? Oh, grounds will be minimal I guess if there is one big parking lot where the Brennan bldg is.
