Easter 2011 at St. Vincent's Church
It was standing room only for the 9:30 a.m. mass this glorious Easter morning.
They came to St. Vincent's by the hundreds this morning! The pews were filled, the aisles were filled, the back of the church was full. I have to belive that with this type of attendance there is no way anyone could possibly close this beloved Church. Just no way. May you all enjoy a Blessed Easter.
1:50 This mass is always crowded. Yet they still desire to close the church- their justification being that these same people would have fit nicely into a Mass offered at Saint Mary's. They just don't get it. The building itself means nothing, in fact, they see it as a burden; something that is holding them back, a threat to the implementation of one worship site.
The churches were packed everywhere this weekend. It's always a blessing to share the pews with the many new faces- only wish they would come back next weekend.
10:42 Yep, everybody loves Jesus on Easter and Christmas morning. Too bad that it is short-lived. If there was a mass at IHM it would have been packed too, just like it used to be on Easter Sunday. Sorry folks, but 10:02pm is correct, the lines at Saint Vincent's could have been backed up to Pulteney Street and it would not change the mindset of leadership.
I agree that nothing is going to change. It's too bad that the loyal followers and supporters of him are also being led to the slaughter. St. Mary's is a money pit and everyone knows it. Take a look at the steeple. Slates missing and in need of repair. Paint peeling on the ceiling indicating leaks elsewhere in the roof. The windows are so drafty it's uncomfortable to sit near them in cold weather. The most usable church for youth activities is being sold. Valuable staff had the rug pulled out from under them under the guise of cutbacks, only to have new hires. Yet his inner circle protects him and encourages the pillage. Just when is enough, enough?
10:37 There is absolutley no reason why the ceiling at Saint Mary's has not been repaired. Would any of us live in a home and not fix the ceiling if it were crumbling into pieces? What a disgrace and embarrassment. I recently attended a mass in Watkins Glen and, aside from the pleasure of being ministered by Father Paul Bonacci, I was taken back by the meticulous and impecable Church and property. Everything is perfect, clean and maintained. It is obvious that the parishioners LOVE their Church. They have a sense of ownership, something we haven't felt here for a long time.
